Hi,

I'm 'smallfry' in Mosman, Sydney.

I received a beautiful betta for my birthday a couple of weeks ago, he's just gorgeous and I'm desperate to learn more about him. I've read several posts on here and it's clear I have much to learn about the types of betta, their genes etc.

My - very basic - description of my fish is:

His head is black, two third of his body are greeny/blue (mostly blue - I think), his fins (all of them) are a greeny blue with dark blue/black freckles. There are 2 long thin fins which are kind of like a beard and they almost look deep red in colour. He's about 2 inches long and very friendly, if I walk around the room he essentially follows me and flaps around like a happy mad thing :)

He lives in a brandy shaped glass bowl with a pink faux plant and sandy coloured pebbles, no direct sunlight and cleaned about once every week or so. I feed him Guppy Bytes which are micro pellets, I feed him once a day only.

Once I've had him for long enough and I've learned more, I'd like to expand the tank to something more roomy and eventually I'd like to breed. But baby steps first....

Thanks,

Caroline

I will attach photo's as soon as I can get a decent one! The problem with the brandy glass shaped bowl is all the curves.

I hadn't seen my fish flare at all, so I put a mirror up to the bowl to see how we would go. He flared, which was amazing to watch...but then he did a large poop. I assume this means I've stressed the poor thing out? I won't do it again unless you think every now and again would be OK?
