Fletch
Please help. I clean this out and 24 hrs later it's back. Co2 doesn't dissolve it when applied directly. Any ideas how go control it?
kermadum
It's a bit tough to see what we're looking at, but is it that brown diatom algae? http://www.aquariumslife.com/headline/brown-diatom-algae-control/
Fletch
Don't think that's it Adam. This is really fine particles and is not fixed to anything. When the cories bury through it they send up a cloud of it. Very frustrating and ugly.
melbournebetta
Totally unhelpful with this sort of thing - but I'd be tempted to airline siphon it all out and treat with whatever the brains trust here thinks... it was going so well! Fletch
I get rid of it with a garden hose but it returns 24 hrs later. I have had this since day one. I thought it was algae and was hoping it would settle down and go away but no luck. It is only in the one corner. None anywhere else. So confused. Sarah
I had this sometime last year! Was very annoying.. I would syphon out, and it came back. Don't have it now, just disappeared overnight... think it was after I got my light actually... not saying your lighting is bad though! Yeah, WHERE'S MATT? paul
Is it a heap of mulm building up from the breakdown of all that plant matter? Wouldn't adding a filter remove it all?
Matt_95
Looks like diatomes and mulm buildup. Diatomes will eventually go away, they are often caused by silica.

Fletch
I have a canister filter in this tank. 24 hrs and it's back. I was hoping it would disappear but it's not. WHAT DO I DO MATT?The tank has been set up for months.@Sarah. My lighting is not great but should be ok. T8, two plant tubes.
shadoh
Can't be a lighting issue, as I have better lighting than Busman and have the same thing!
Yanagi
I've got 2 canisters and an internal filter running on my Discus tank and still get this. Mulm and broken down plant matter, collects anywhere it can. You can aim a powerhead at the area so it all gets stirred up and picked up by the filter but then you'll end up with another dead zone where it all collects again... So I just pretend I don't see it.

Fletch
Funny that I get this in the community tank but very little in my wild NPT tank that has no filter. Looks like it's normal and I have to live with it. :-(
Matt_95
The area mine collects is in the back corner behind my giant lotus, I never see it!
Fletch
I might try moving my spray bar and see if I can get it to gather at the back. Got to try something. Thanks everyone for your input. :-)
