shadoh
First one is a Melano Black Orchid. His body is black most of the time unless the light hits it at the right angle, then appears blue. The second one is a Yellow Apache.

Fletch
Why Paul? She is. Don't tell me she will be infertile. Edited April 1, 2011 by Busman
Bettarazzi
I believe if she's got some irid on her she's more likely to be fertile. I'm not sure why that is. Haven't worked with blacks much.
Fletch
This is the female here. Thoughts please.
paul
Hmmm... If she's melano like she appears to be, the theory is that she'll be infertile. There are reports of melano female being fertile when: They are double (super) black ie both melano and black lace They carry a significant amount of iridescence (I don't know how much is enough - whether copper/dragon or just more blue) The problem is that they will produce eggs but the eggs fail to hatch. She is a lovely fish though! She get to HM if flaring?
Fletch
Not sure. Haven't arrived yet. Was told be breeder that females were fertile but who knows. Not happy if not the case.
shadoh
The breeder says he guarantees the fertility of the female and will send a replacement (of any colour/line he has available) if she proves to be infertile.

paul
Looks shiny! Actually... Looks shinier than usual - maybe metallic steel blue? Is this enough irid to guarantee fertility? Hope they get to you soon, and safely, ready to spawn!!! Edit: if the breeder can guarantee fertility, maybe they are actually double black - I can't imagine a breeder would now attempt to get pure melanos (1/4 max 1/2 of every spawn with infertile females) when you get fertile females and 100% black fry if you work with double black. I know what I'd choose. Edited April 2, 2011 by paul
