  1. Update. No co2 running anymore. These were taken before big water change and clean up. Trimming all val, removing 50% of the chain sword and general overhaul. I do nothing with this tank now, no additives at all and first wc in about 6 weeks.

  2. I have been a little worried about getting girls out of my community tank. Very thick with plants.

These girls have solved my problem. I can pick them up by hand. No kidding.

I have seen then actually out of the water, on top of weed. This is whenever I open the lids.

This girl was on her side, eyeball above waterline, following my movements. Love the open mouth.

  3. Welcome Chi. Sure you will fit in fine. We all love photos so please throw some up for us to look at. Don't be afraid to ask or respond to questions. Have a good look around, you may get some tips from the spawn logs. Sounds like you are doing ok anyway. :-).

  4. So your saying that the fishes sex is already decided 7 weeks. Hhhmmmm........7 weeks is fairly old. Guess you could be right.

Also, not talking 50/50 split, we are talking 100% girls. I am sure we came to the conclusion last time that for this to happen, it would most likely be environmental.

Taking into account such things as late sprouters, I would still be amazed if all fishes sex (including runts) was decided by 7 weeks.

    Just my thoughts.

  5. But you would all have different water chemistry. I thought when this happened it was put down to temp or water quality. This spawn has been split, there would have to be a degree or two in temp and water would have to be different for all of you.....

So that would blow that theory. So confused, so many questions if this is the case.

  6. Interesting question. I have a thread in the community tank section, NPT Tank. Tank still doing well, fed only live food (lots of waste) and has LOTS of fry in it.

I DO NOT do weekly wc on this tank. Sorry, that was 30 yrs of habit. That's why I LOVE these tanks. I do a wc whenever I feel like it, maybe one or two a month. :-)

  7. I would never recommend more than one boy per tank. Yes, some people get away with it and most don't. Things may run smooth for a month or two but one day you may come home to one dead one and the other torn to shreds. These fish do usually fight, it's in there nature. When I have had spawns grow out, some boys get agro as they start to sprout, nip at anything. Others have stayed in grow out until almost full half adult size with very little agro.

But.........it all depends on the nature of the fish (varies greatly) and the tank. If the boys can get away from each other and both have a territory with no line-off-sight of the other, then maybe.

I have a 3 ft community tank full of various tetras, angels ect and all my excess girls go in here. Only time I had an issue was when I started, I put 3-4 in to try it out. One became dominant and harassed others constantly. Was killing one at a time. I then put another 6-8 in and it settled down. I now have about a dozen in the tank with no issues at all. No fish bother them and they don't really bother each other.

    All just my thoughts. :-)
