  1. Great, thankyou, Ray - good idea. As for the wood, I have a piece of driftwood I have in the fish tank, I think you are supposed to boil it, but I just soaked it for like ages. These pieces were in the shrub way up the beach.
  2. So it's safe then? Great! Oh, the list is safe rocks for AXOLOTLS... so it may vary a little for fishies. Matt pointed out that sandstone, limestone and marble are all safe for African Cichlids.
  3. I .. recycled .. some rocks from the beach, and dad just told me he thinks it's blue metal, he said he THINKS that is some sort of volcanic rock, but isn't positive. I put some vinegar on it, no fizzling.. is anybody sure if they are safe?
  4. Very nice! I'm also very happy with the guppies/tetras/axolotls I've gotten from you in the past.. that's why I'm coming back for another axolotl hahaha. :)
  5. In the car, I saw a sign that said "Welcome to (forget name) - be a waterchanger! I'm postive that's what said - but I think I was imagining things!

  6. Hhhaaapppyyyyy birthday to you!!! Happy birthday to you!! Happy birthday dearrr Jarrrrooooddddd... happy birthday to you!

  7. Away to next week.. missing my fish, axies.. and espeically my little 'lotls. Have been told brother is looking after them well, and they have grown...

  8. I just reached out and grabbed a fly with my bare hands. Feel very ninja... if only I had chopsticks!

In time Young Grasshopper, in time. :)

Psst... I have the rank of Dai Sempai.. not quite Sensei, that's next - but a LONG way off (thinking years).

  9. :balloons: Ooh... Happy Birthday Jess! Have a wonderful day!
  10. Yes. People often use them for marine - my sister's coral all died last Summer because she didn't have a chiller, unfortunately. Not sure about the tubs, they are in a 400L tank, I think it's just a matter of giving them cool, clean water, and waiting.
  11. Hey Les, yes chillers are a great thing to have... you don't happen to have a spare one laying around, do you? I've been taking the lids off, frozen water bottles.. that sorta thing. Chiller would make it a LOT easier though. I would LOVE them to breed. If they do, I'll raise the eggs, but I'm not expecting any anytime soon, what with Summer just around the corner. Then of coarse, eggs are said to pop up when you least expect them. :)
  12. Thanks, Busman. No luck yet, I've heard Winter is the time. I might take out Tenedor (the female) next Winter, house her somewhere else for a little while... then put her back in. This is supposed to get them started or something, kinda like the 'shiny new toy'...
  13. Haha.. um... not quite sure what to say to that, Les...
  14. Thanks Jarrod & Les. Yes, that's right Jarrod. I thought it would be appropriate to give them Spanish names, being my little Mexican Axolotls. :)
  15. Haha, thanks Jarrod! This was taken last night, their first meal in their new home! They love their bloodworms.
  16. Aaannndddd... meet Hambriento - his/her name is Spanish for 'Hungry' - a very fitting name for an axolotl! So now for names, I have - Tenedor - Spanish for 'Fork' Sonriente - Spanish for 'Smiley' Hambriento - Spanish for 'Hungry' Lindo - Spanish for 'cute' and Banana. The yellow one. :woohoo:
  17. My gorgeous little 'lotls are in their new home... such curious and active little things. Love them already! So adorable - and only about 3cm! Please excuse the floor of the tank, the tank has been stirred up once they went in, and I took the pictures literally straight away haha. Meet Lindo. His/her name is Spanish for 'cute'.
  18. Space and the money, Mandz.... would also be VERY time consuming!
  19. Wow... we're a pretty sane bunch aye? http://in.truveo.com/most-outrageous-largest-home-aquarium/id/184919388 His wife must be so patient...
  20. Sonriente hehe. Hello Tenedor! Tenedor & Banana - such good friends they are.
  21. These are some odd photos from the past few weeks: So I put this lovely aquarium rock that mum found in the backyard from years ago... unfortunately have had to take it out, as the axies have cut themselves on it. Banana has two broken toes, Sonriente a bit of fungus on his gill, due to banging it on the rock. Seems to be gone now and healing up - but feel pretty bad for putting the rock in in the first place.. they are so fragile. .... and, I have very exciting news! This afternoon, I'm going to pick up two eight week old axolotl juvi's! Photos of them will be posted as soon as possible!
  22. They're nice, Jha. Can't really add to Wayne's post there. Webbing is the bit between the rays on their finnage that makes the part of the tail 'one piece' - rather than a multitude of rays. Think of a duck's feet... there are like toes, but webby bits in between them, to make it one foot... rather than claw/toes. So up to the bit where the rays go all spiky... Hope that makes sense, it did in my head haha.
  23. Getting two eight week old axolotl larvae - very excited!

I've never raised axolotl juvi's before. Aristotle Axolotl was the smallest at 15cm-ish... and he was eating the same food as the adults, just more frequently.

These guys are feeding on frozen bloodworms and live blackworms.

Can't wait.. their temporary tank is set up. :))
