  1. They aren't plastic, they're glass. A few people do use airstones, though.
  2. It sounds like you're aiming for a high maintence planted tank (carpet). If that's the case, I would avoid any air operated filters. The airstones would drive off the added CO2. If the tank is only to house a single Betta, I would skip filtration completely and let the plants do their job. Partial water changes done whenever the tank needed it. Of course this is only if there's already a good amount of stem plants in there to keep the cycle going. You're right about the waste. Mulm is organgic, it contains nutrients and will support plant growth. I wouldn't vacuum the bottom unless it was really building up, which it shouldn't as long as you don't overfeed.
  3. Ask the breeder for permission to use the photos first. :)
  4. Welcome! Like Force Fed said, someone/someone is probably your best bet if you're after something specific to match your new boy.
  5. Welcome, and what a beautiful tank!
  6. Aw, I'm sorry to hear that.
  7. Welcome! We're always happy to meet a new betta addict.
  8. Orange dragons WANT. Congrats, you have me 100% jealous. :P

    Hi all

Welcome. My HM boy is about as purple in the body as I've ever seen. Photo.
  10. Thanks. She's certainly got a lot of personality to go with her looks. I just realized how much colour she's gained since the first photo of her! She loses and gains black in her pattern every couple of weeks, it's pretty cool. I wish I had a photo of her from when a quarter of her side was solid black. :(
  11. There's something about that one I really like! Seems like a male to me too. :)
  12. He's a nice looking fish! :)
  13. No wonder she's got so much energy to produce so many eggs, she's developed a taste for the sinking pellets... Only edits made were to remove the dead pixel spot things. :)
  14. Sorry for yet another loss. To my uneducated mind he sounds stressed and is taking it out on his fins. Have you got another tank he can be kept in by himself for a while to see if he recovers? (I'd name him Sparkle Bum or Fairy Dust, just 'cause he's shiny and I like to humiliate my pets...) Sounds like it's just a bad time for fish, with you losing one, one not doing too well and I lost one to dropsy yesterday. Hope they heal up for you!
  15. I rinse all my plants off under tap water, then put the plug in, fill up the sink and check for snails and snail eggs... They're very easy to miss. My tank is evidence of that. :)
  16. Love his colour and fins! Is that just the pictures/angle or is his body really that short?
  17. It's too cold to go without heaters here, going into winter. Especially in my room, where all my fish are.
  18. I suppose. I just worry that if the perspex does indeed fall out that I'll end up with two shredded fish. But I suppose that's not hard to fix. Finding accommodations for them while the dividers are fixed, now that would be the problem.
  19. I overslept today, and woke up to find my dad finished the 'windows'. He cut them way too big. I am so annoyed now... He didn't even do it neatly like he said he would, they don't look like they're in properly and I'm willing to bet that if I bumped it the darn thing would fall right out. It's one big, ugly mess. Argh. They're also not siliconed onto the perspex, but into it. There is no overlay, if that makes sense. To me that just seems like it would make them so much more unstable.
  20. His name reminds me of The Simpsons, Police Chief Wiggum. Love the 2nd shots of him, such detail!
  21. Yes, he's a doubletail red dragon Plakat. And he is NICE!!! I'm not normally a fan of doubletails, but I want one just like him!
  22. Geez, that is one big betta! :)
